The Tai Chi Fan is a unique style of martial arts fitness.
It combines movements from Tai Chi, other martial arts, and dance. By combining Tai Chi and fan movements, it balances strength and flexibility, both defensive and offensive. It’s graceful, and elegant, and shows both a sense of beauty and the strength of martial arts. It’s a fitness activity that’s both enjoyable to watch and artistic.
Right now, I’ll teach everyone a set of twenty-four Tai Chi Fan movements.
Starting Position:
Left foot steps out, both arms raise in front, knees bend, palms press down.
Wild Horse Parts Its Mane, Left and Right:
- Left Parting Wild Horse’s Mane: Hold a ball, bring feet together, turn body, and step out into a bow stance.
- Right Parting Wild Horse’s Mane: Sit back, lift the foot, hold a ball, step out into a bow stance.
- Left Parting Wild Horse’s Mane: Sit back, lift the foot, hold a ball, step out into a bow stance.
White Crane Spreads Its Wings:
Hold the ball with the foot, turn the body while sitting back, step into an empty stance and separate the hands.
Left and Right Brush Knee and Twist Step:
- Left Brush Knee and Twist Step: Turn the body, lower the hand, shift weight, step and brush.
- Right Brush Knee and Twist Step: Sit back, lift the foot, turn the body, step and brush.
- Left Brush Knee and Twist Step: Sit back, lift the foot, turn the body, step and brush.
Hand Strums the Lute:
Follow with the foot, raise the hand, step into an empty stance and close the arms.
Turn and Punch with Opposite Fist:
- Turn and Punch with the Opposite Fist, Right: Turn the body, withdraw the hand, raise the knee, step back, and punch.
- Turn and Punch with the Opposite Fist, Left: Turn the body, withdraw the hand, raise the knee, step back, and punch.
- Turn and Punch with the Opposite Fist, Right: Turn the body, withdraw the hand, raise the knee, step back, and punch.
- Turn and Punch with the Opposite Fist, Left: Turn the body, withdraw the hand, raise the knee, step back, and punch.
Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail, Left Side:
Turn body, withdraw hand, hold the ball, step out, form a bow stance, extend arm, pivot, connect hands, push forward, sit back, press palm in bow stance.
Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail, Right Side:
Turn body, hook foot, hold the ball, step out, form a bow stance, extend arm, pivot, connect hands, push forward, sit back, press palm in bow stance.
Single Whip:
Turn body, hook foot, circle hand, collect foot, step out, push palm in bow stance.
Cloud Hands:
- Cloud Hands: Turn body, hook foot, circle hand, step in, shift weight.
- Cloud Hands: Circle hand, step out, shift weight.
- Cloud Hands: Circle hand, step out, shift weight.
Single Whip:
Turn body, hook hand, step out, push palm in bow stance.
High Pat on Horse:
Follow with the foot, turn and flip hand, step out, push palm in bow stance.
Right Heel Kick:
Pierce the palm, lift the foot, step out, hug together, lift knee, kick while supporting the arm.
Double Peaks Pierce Ears:
Bring foot in, step out, punch in bow stance.
Turn and Left Heel Kick:
Sit back, lift the foot, release hand, turn your body, hook the foot, separate your hands, bring the foot back, lift the knee, kick while supporting the arm.
Left Lower Stance, Standing Alone:
Bring your foot in, hook your hand, squat down, step back, slide your palm through, rise up on your toes, lift your knee, raise your palm.
Right Lower Stance, Standing Alone:
Put your foot down, hook your hand, squat down, step back, slide your palm through, rise up on your toes, lift your knee, raise your palm.
Right Left Shuttle:
- Right Shuttle: Lower your foot and sit back, hold the ball, follow with your foot, step and roll the ball, push forward in a bow stance.
- Left Shuttle: Sit back, lift your foot, hold the ball, follow with your foot, step and roll the ball, push forward in a bow stance.
Needle at Sea Bottom:
Step back, release your hand, sit back and raise your hand, step forward and insert your palm.
Flash through the Arms:
Lift your hand, bring your foot in, step out, separate your hands, push forward in a bow stance.
Turn, Deflect, Parry, and Punch:
Hook your foot, sit down, make a fist, step forward, twist your body, block with your arm, punch in a bow stance.
As If Sealed and Closed:
Slide palm through, flip hand over, sit back and collect hand, press palm in a bow stance.
Cross Hands:
Turn body, hook foot, step into a bow stance, sit and cross legs, bring foot together.
Closing Stance:
Flip palm forward and support, separate hands and lower, bring foot together to original position.
